In the UK, billboards are commonly found on bus stops, train stations, buildings and roadsides. Laws requiring permission to plan for billboards usage have led to the use of articulated vehicles as billboards in certain areas.

Some smaller billboards have slightly smaller display size than the sheet size when it is used with a clip in place posters. For instance, there is a safe display area of 1.14×1.71 meters for the 6 sheet metric bus stop billboards (1.20×1.80 m).

Despite the official use of metric units in the UK, most billboards in the UK are still measured in feet and inches.

Because of the improved print technology, a 4 sheet billboard is usually enclosed with a single 40 x 60 inch sheet. A 12 sheet panel will, therefore, have 3 sheets, up to 96 sheet billboards having 24 sheets.

The original sheet size of 20 x 30 inch is the size of British Imperial Double Crown paper size.
